Kissed by an angel

Kissed by an angel

By:Elizabeth Chandler

Grimaced - an ugly, twisted expression on a person's face, typically expressing disgust, pain, or wry amusement.

Connecticut - a state in the northeastern U.S., on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean’s Long Island Sound, one of the six New England states.

I never knew how romantic a backseat could be Ivy said, smiling at tristan. Then looking at the junk on the floor of the car. tristan got his tie out of the cup & tossed the dripping think in the front of the car, then sat back with Ivy. Ow! The smell of crushed flowers filled the air. Ivy laughed. What’s so funny?” Tristan asking, pulling the smashed roses from behind him, but he was laughing too.

“Ivy, I love you,” Tristan said, his face suddenly serious. She stared back at him, then bit her lip. “This isn’t some kind of game for me. I love you Ivy Lyons, and one day you will believe me.” She hugged him tightly and said I love you Tristan Carruthers,” as she whispered into his neck. Ivy did believe him and trusted him more than any one.

Tristan turned on the headlights. You really don't have to hurry, said Ivy. I’m not hungry anymore. I ruined your appetite? She shook her head. I guess I’m filled up with happy happiness, she said softly. The car sped along & too a curve sharply. I said, we don't have to hurry. That’s funny, Tristan murmured. I wonder what’s-” He glanced down at his feet. This doesn’t feel. . . .”

Slow down okay?

It doesn’t matter if we’er late- Oh! Ivy pointed straight ahead. Tristan!”

A deer plunged through the bushes and into the roadway. Then the deer stopped. It turned its head, its eyes drawn to the car’s bright headlights. Tristan!

They were rushing towards the shining eyes.

Tristan don’t you see it?”

Rushing still.

Ivy, something’s-”

A deer! she exclaimed.

Then another light came from behind the deer. A car was coming from the opposite direction. Trees walled them in. There was no room to veer left or right. Stop! she shouted.

“I’m-”

Stop, why don’t you stop? she pleaded. Tristan, stop!

The windshield exploded.

For days after, all Ivy could remember was the waterfall of glass.

Echo & Narcissus

Echo & narcissus

nymph = A mythological spirit of nature imagined as a beautiful maiden inhabiting rivers, woods, or other locations.

rebuff = (someone or something) in an abrupt or ungracious manner.

Zeus, is King of Olympians & many love affairs. Young and beautiful Nymph Echo would distract & amuse his wife Hera with long & entertaining stories. Zeus took advantage of the moment to ravish the other mountain nymphs. Hera discovered the trickery she punished the talkative Echo by taking away her voice, except in foolish repetition of another's shouted words

& all Echo can do is repeat the voice of another. Echo fell in love with a vain youth named Narcissus, who was a son of the blue Nymph Leiriope of Thespia.

The River god Cephisus had once encircled Leirope with the windings of his streams, and thus trapping her, had seduced the nymph & Narcissus was their child. Concerned about the baby's welfare, Leirope went to consult the oracle called Teiresias regarding her son's future. Teiresias told the nymph that Narcissus "would live to a ripe old age, as long as he never knew himself.

Narcissus was beautiful as a child & grew even more so as he matured. By the age of sixteen he had left a trail of broken hearts, from rejected lovers of both sexes & Narcissus wanted nothing to do with falling in love with anyone & rebuffed all attempts at romance.

One day when Narcissus was out hunting stags, Echo stealthily followed the handsome youth through the woods, longing to address him but unable to speak first. He pulled away from the nymph & vainly told her to get lost. Narcissus left Echo heartbroken & she spent the rest of her life in lonely glens, pining away for the love she never knew, until only her voice remained.

A man named Ameinius was one of Narcissus' most ardent admirers, & repeatedly vied for his attention. Ameinious proceeded to plunge the sword into his heart, committing suicide to demonstrate his love, but not before he beseeched the gods to punish the vain Narcissus.

Artemis, heard the plea and made Narcissus fall in love, but a kind a love that couldn't be fulfilled. Narcissus came upon a clear spring at Donacon in Thespia &, as he bent low to take a drink, for the first time caught sight of himself reflected in the pool. He tried to touch the person in the water but he never could.

For hours he sat enraptured at the spring, at last recognizing himself but tortured by the realization that he could never possess the object of his infatuation. Narcissus was tormented, much as he had tormented all those who in the past didn’t fall in love with him. Unable to stand the agony Narcissus plunged a dagger into his heart & died, calling out the lasted goodbye.
